A Cheshire cricket team suffered the ignominy of scoring just three runs at the weekend – and two came from leg byes.

Wirral Cricket Club were set a target of 108 by Haslington in their Cheshire Cricket League match but lost 10 batsmen for ducks as they fell 105 runs short.

At one stage Wirral were 0-8 until their opponents kindly relinquished a couple of extras and number 11 Connor Hobson grabbed a solitary run.

It left the Haslington attack with some pretty impressive bowling figures – Ben Istead finishing with 6-1 and Tom Gledhill picking up 4-0.

Incredibly, Wirral's three-run haul was not a world record lowest score, although you have to go back to 1913 when Langport were dismissed for nought by Somerset rivals Glastonbury.

Fortunately, the club saw the funny side...

Their solution? Rope in some help from a few cricket legends...
