Having your brother launch an expletive-laden rant about one of your team-mates on Twitter is slightly awkward. David Warner found himself in that situation as Australia's Ashes tour went from bad to worse.

Despite making only six and 11 against Zimbabwe, Warner’s brother, Steven, advocated his return to the Test side in a twitter tirade that also saw him abuse opener Shane Watson.

Warner was forced to promptly distance himself from his brother's tweets with a statement released through Cricket Australia.

"Earlier this week, my brother Steven Warner published a Tweet about Shane Watson," he said in his statement.

"Like everyone, he is entitled to his opinions but I want to state categorically that I do not endorse his comments and fully support Shane and all my team-mates."

On Friday, shortly after Watson had needlessly wasted a review in Australia's first innings, Steven Warner wrote: "F***ing selfish Watson sooner your [sic] out the side you great pretender the better."

Once Australia had been bowled out for their lowest total at Lords since 1968 of just 128, he followed with: "Ok @CricketAus I hope u have a business class seat booked from SA to London because its about time u had a batsmen there who will have a go."
