Brendan Rodgers had a surprising reaction to Mario Balotelli's bad miss

If there's one thing we know about Mario Balotelli, it's that he knows how to put a smile on our faces - but this doesn't usually extend to his managers.

Jose Mourinho once described his former player at Inter as "unmanageable", while he was famously involved in a physical confrontation with Roberto Mancini during his time at Manchester City.

But Brendan Rodgers - who purchased the striker from AC Milan for £16 million in an attempt to be the first coach to finally bring the best out of him - appears to be enjoying his early exposure to the striker.

In an eventful first half of football for Liverpool against Tottenham, Balotelli wasted two good headed chances and then passed up the chance to score again when shooting wide with the goal at his mercy from long range.

Spurs keeper Hugo Lloris had charged from his line to challenge Raheem Sterling but Balotelli shanked his effort well off target.

Not that that stopped Rodgers from enjoying the incident with a grin across his face.

Perhaps you can afford to smile at such a miss when you are 1-0 up.
