Did awful Man Utd send Fergie to sleep?

Sir Alex Ferguson’s constant presence at Manchester United games was said to undermine the hapless David Moyes, and on Saturday he hardly did any favours to Ryan Giggs either.

The temporary manager, taking charge of the team for only the second time, watched United put in a wretched display as they lost 1-0 to Sunderland for their first home defeat to the Wearsiders since 1968.

And after Sebastian Larsson scored the opening goal with a lovely finish, the cameras found Sir Alex in the stands.

Was the fare on offer so boring that the famously fiery Scot had to grab some z’s?

ED would have thought the sheer awfulness of Michael Carrick’s performance would at least have kept him at a decent level of fury.
