As far as PR disasters go, this was right up there. Having made a big play for marketing Sky Go's coverage of the final day of the Premier League season, it went downhill. Rapidly.

Fans who were lured in to pay £9.99 for a day pass to enjoy all the action of the Premier League's finale on Now TV were unable to watch the football at all.

Instead of seeing Samir Nasri and Vincent Kompany score to hand Manchester City the trophy, users of the Sky Go online player were instead faced with a "please come back later" screen.

As the season reached its climax, many fans were unable to watch the action at all, with the service essentially unavailable for the majority of the day.

Sky were forced to make grovelling apologies, while fans no doubt abandoned the service and headed to the local pub.

"We'd like to apologise again for this afternoon's issues," Sky told users on the Now TV community page. "We're working as hard as we can to get things running as soon as possible.

"We'll be contacting all sports pass customers automatically to provide a refund or a replacement pass. You don't need to do anything to make this happen."

That's great. Fans can now take the refund and wait until the climax of next season to get their live entertainment.
