Early Doors

Is this the funniest pitch invasion we’ll see all season?

Barcelona opened up their La Liga campaign with a comfortable 3-0 win over Elche at the Camp Nou - with Lionel Messi scoring a brace and Munir also starring.

However, there was only one star of the show.

They had barely kicked off before the match was halted due to a pitch invasion.

No ordinary interruption, this.

No, this was an interruption of the feline kind.

It gave rise to immediate social media wonderings about how long it would be before the cat had its own Twitter account. Not long, as it turned out.

Or, indeed, how long it would be before another club expressed an interest in signing the cat up.

Of course, the doom-and-gloom merchants might suggest it's an omen.

But Early Doors prefers to point and laugh at the cat running around the Camp Nou pitch without a care in the world...and hope that it scratched the steward who, after some limp attempts to gather the kitty up, rather cavalierly dispatched it off down the tunnel.

West Brom's Berahino given time off to consider future

West Bromwich Albion's England under-21 striker Saido Berahino will be given time off until next Monday to consider his position after suggesting he would not play for the club again, sources close to the player said on Wednesday. Berahino was furious after negotiations on a proposed move to Tottenham Hotspur broke down on the final day of the transfer window, with Albion chairman Jeremy Peace blaming Spurs for undervaluing and unsettling the player with four different bids. "I can officially say I will never play (for) Jeremy Peace," Berahino tweeted on Tuesday. More »
