Poor old Emile Heskey developed an unfortunate reputation for calamitous misses during his time in English football, and it appears to be a trait which has followed him to Australia.
Although Heskey claimed nine league goals in his first season with the Newcastle Jets in Australia’s A-League – with the club even launching a ‘Heskey Cam’ for his adoring fans – things have gone rather less smoothly since.
The former England international – who enjoyed his most prolific seasons at Liverpool between 2000 and 2002 – has not scored yet this season for the Jets.
And judging by the evidence of this horrendous miss, it might be a while before he ends his duck.
Heskey was gifted with a golden opportunity against the Central Coast Mariners but managed to sky his effort well over the bar from 10 yards out before throwing himself to the ground in frustration.
The Jets went on to lose 3-0 and are now eighth in the 10-team league.
