Now that Luis Suarez has finally confirmed that he's leaving Liverpool for Barcelona, his colleagues and the club hierarchy are ever so keen to go on record praising him and his contribution.

Pretty standard, you might think, for anyone leaving their employer.

Or perhaps not.

Even the initial club statement about Suarez was overflowing with compliments, thanking him for "the role he played in helping bring Champions League football back to Anfield" and wishing him and his family well for the future.

Obviously, the best way to secure a touching farewell valediction from Liverpool is to get a worldwide ban from all football-related activities following your third biting offence as well as a previous ban for racial abuse.

And the most straightforward way to get a cursory brusque announcement is to hand in a request for a move to a domestic rival at the end of the midseason transfer window...
