Brazilian superstar Neymar’s season has gone from the sublime to the ridiculous with his latest revelation.
Neymar made a tremendous start to his Barcelona career as the Catalans appeared to seamlessly integrate their marquee signing into the first team with ease; while the newest Galactico, Gareth Bale, struggled to acclimatise to new surroundings in the Spanish capital.
Neymar appeared to confirm his status as the superior player when he grabbed the opening goal in a 2-1 victory in the season’s opening clasico against Real Madrid in October.
However, as the old adage goes, if something appears too good to be true then it probably is – and Neymar has endured a tumultuous second half of the season in Spain.
And his dramatic drop in form culminated in the Brazilian superstar passing up a gilt-edged chance in the dying embers of the Cope del Rey final against Real Madrid last week – score and the tie was heading for extra-time but, alas, for the Barca fans in attendance, he toe-poked against the post.
What could be the cause of such a dramatic slump?
Much has been made of the fall out of his complicated transfer that has already seen the resignation of Sandro Rosell as president and continues to rumble.
Regardless, Neymar has retained an almost incongruous calm and looked effortlessly cool. However, that cool image may just be about to take quite the hit following the publication of a “selfie” with Niall Horan, member of pop group One Direction.
The photo was posted on his Instagram account with the tag, which says “I’m a fan and admire the whole group!”
Neymar, the, erm, Directioner, who would have thought it, eh?
