Patrons of transfer deadline day ask for very little when the hallowed day comes round twice a year.
For some, a marquee signing makes their day, while, for others, it is the sight of one Harry Redknapp leaning out of his car window chatting rather glibly about his latest deal or proposed deal.
This year the inexplicable happened though, as fans of the ‘car window’ were left disappointed after ‘Arry failed to stop to chat to Sky Sports News reporter Gary Cotterill as he left QPR’s training ground on Monday evening.
To be fair to Redknapp, he was a busy man, as he was working on proposed deals for Sandro of Tottenham and Liverpool’s Fabio Borini.
However, Sky did get their man later in the day but had to share microphone space with Talksport and others, with no car window in sight as Redknapp made his way into Loftus Road.
Fear not, though, there was another iconic deadline day moment on Monday, brought to you by the hand of Dharmesh Sheth, as can be seen below:
So impressed was Early Doors by Dharmesh’s turn, ED's slightly worried that it may be about to overshadow Redknapp as the biggest non-transfer related story of the coming windows.
The moment of the night, though, arguably came at Everton's training ground, Finch Farm, when poor Alan Irwin had a blue dildo, yes, a blue dildo, thrust into his ear during a piece-to-camera on live TV.
But that was not the only naughty item to make a shock appearance behind the over-eager Sky cameras on what became an increasingly farcical night of broadcasting.
In this case, a reporter was cut off in Birmingham very abruptly after his piece to camera descended into chaos with a naughty doll waved behind his head.
Ah, sigh, this is what has become of the transfer window: the things we expect, and the things we most certainly did not.
