Hull City striker Shane Long's four-year-old daughter was left in floods of tears after West Brom fans reportedly abused her father in front of her on Saturday.

The awful incident was detailed by Long's other half, Kayleah, on Twitter on Saturday evening as he described what happened in a series of emotional tweets.

Long failed to endear himself to West Brom fans when he produced a match-winning performance for his new club Hull City, whom he joined in January from the Baggies.

The Republic of Ireland international won a contentious penalty and also scored a goal of his own as Hull won 2-0 to leave West Brom in real trouble at the bottom of the table.

And when Long emerged from the players' exit at the KC Stadium, some West Brom fans apparently saw fit to give him a piece of their mind, despite the fact that Long had his young daughter, Teigan, with him.

It was hardly the day out Teigan might have envisaged the day before her fourth birthday.

Long's wife tweeted: "Some pathetic men were abusing swearing at Shane in front of my daughter that I think is vile! Teigan was very upset as some men thought shouting abuse in front of her 2 her dad made them look big! Our daughter is 4-years-old and cried as was worried for her dad! Thank god I wasn't there."

Long decided not to properly celebrate his goal as a mark of respect to West Brom. And as one fan pointed out, it's a shame the favour wasn't returned.

Thankfully, the Long family were given the support of many football fans after a traumatic day.
