Tottenham’s ingenious message to Jermain Defoe

It is not often that a player leaves a club with the universal affection of the club, its fans and players alike but Jermain Defoe appears to have cracked it.

The diminutive striker left Tottenham at the end of last month to embark on a new career in the MLS with Canadian side Toronto FC, after two successful spells at the north London club.

Feats that include being Tottenham’s all-time top-scorer in Europe with 23 goals, strikes against the old enemy Arsenal and exceptional performances like his five-goal salvo against Wigan in 2009 has left Defoe a verifiable legend.

And Defoe continued a miraculous record that has seen him score on his debut for every club he has played for when he grabbed a brace as Toronto beat Seattle Sounders FC 2-1 on March 15.

Such a prolific start in the MLS would seem to suggest that Defoe probably doesn’t need luck, but old club Tottenham thought they’d mark his home debut with a message of support.

And how did they do it?

Well, they took a rather unique approach by buying the advertising hoarding around the pitch to wish the England striker luck, as seen below:
