Zenit ultras get match abandoned because they were losing

Early Doors

With the Russian league title all but wrapped up if they won at home to Dinamo Moscow, Andre Villas-Boas’ Zenit St Petersburg were on the verge of blowing it as they trailed 4-2 with seven minutes left.

Unfortunately, things got even worse for the club from there, thanks to their ‘ultra’ supporters.

The home fans rushed onto the pitch in anger at losing a game of football, as you do, with at least one Dinamo player under attack from the lunatics.

Home team players Danny and Solomon Rondon also got physically involved as the Zenit followers rioted in catastrophic scenes, and in the wake of it all the referee had no choice but to haul the players back to the changing rooms and abandon the match.

Action will surely be taken as a result of the pathetic happenings in St Petersburg, and one would hope that it will not begin and end with a simple re-arrangement of the fixture, which would simply give those petulant supporters the do-over they wanted.
