Choose ‘em or lose ‘em: It’s a Given

Choose 'em: For your custodian this week look no further than Shay Given (7.50), the reasonably-priced Manchester City keeper who will face Wigan at Eastlands. A more expensive, yet none the less astute, option this week is Heurelho Gomes (10.53) with Spurs hosting toothless Portsmouth at White Hart Lane.

Lose 'em: If you weren't already going to jettison Joe Hart (8.25) after last week's dismal showing that saw the Birmingham keeper rake in minus 10.50 points, then do so now - a match against Arsenal is not what the doctor ordered for the young England hope. And Jussi Jaaskelainen (6.35) may seem affordable after a price drop last week, but with Manchester United on the horizon for Bolton, he's best left out of your line-up.

Choose 'em: United have a fantastic record at Bolton, so Nemanja Vidic (8.96) looks a steal this week, while even Rio Ferdinand (9.39) is an affordable option if you don't mind putting all your eggs in one basket. Liverpool are at home to Sunderland, with Jamie Carragher (8.29) the pick of the Reds bunch while Paulo Ferreira (8.16) is likely to get a game for Chelsea against Aston Villa due to the defensive crisis in west London.

Lose 'em: A spate of injuries to high profile defenders means you have to ditch Manchester City's Joleon Lescott (8.53), Villa's Richard Dunne (11.02) and Chelsea duo Ricardo Carvalho (8.09) and Branislav Ivanovic (9.66) this week. And Gary Cahill (12.06) may be returning from injury, but at at that price and with United visiting Bolton, he's best left well alone.

Choose 'em: Ryan Giggs (12.57) should get a game at the Reebok while Manchester City's Adam Johnson (7.45) is great value for Manchester City's game against Wigan. Likewise, Vincent Kompany (6.91) is worth a punt after a tidy points haul last week. Tottenham wizard Luka Modric (10.04) is a decent bet with Pompey heading to Tottenham and why not go for Jimmy Bullard (10.98) to do something for Hull City against his old club Fulham?

Lose 'em: El-Hadji Diouf (8.61) may have been on the scoresheet against Chelsea last weekend, but don't be tempted by the Blackburn man this week - the volatile midfielder is a shoo-in for a booking, or worse, in a blood and thunder Lancashire derby. And Aston Villa's usually reliable midfield quartet of James Milner (13.58), Ashley Young (14.61), Stiliyan Petrov (8.35) and Stewart Downing (10.62) are just too expensive to keep in your side with a trip to Chelsea coming up.

Choose 'em: Wayne Rooney (24.54), who does not have a knee injury, won't get any cheaper than this after not doing as well as usual against Liverpool last week, so get him now if you want him in your team for the run-in. And why not reunite the Manchester United man with his former team-mate Carlos Tevez (17.54) with Manchester City playing host to porous Wigan on Sunday? You could do worse than Everton's Louis Saha (10.55) with Wolves to play or indeed Dirk Kuyt (11.69), who is surely due a goal soon after a barren eight-game run - perhaps it will come to an end against Sunderland.

Lose 'em: Liverpool have had their defensive problems this season but they should be too tight for Sunderland to break down this weekend - offload the expensive Darren Bent (15.55) and Fraizer Campbell (8.46), who was a decent cheap buy last week but is no longer. And Aston Villa's John Carew (10.99) might be in a rich vein of form, but a trip to Stamford Bridge will probably put an end to that.
