Tottenham's ailing hopes of returning to the Champions League next season may be given a big boost by the return of Ledley King in time for Sunday's match against Chelsea.

The Spurs centre-back has only played seven games all season - and none at all since mid-October - but he could make his return to the squad for Saturday's trip to Stamford Bridge.

Carlo Ancelotti believes he will have a fully fit squad for the London derby.

Across North London, Arsenal have suffered from the absence of one of their own centre-backs - Thomas Vermaelen. The Belgian has not played for the Gunners since August after injuring his Achilles, but he is on the mend and back in training. However, he will not be fit in time to face Manchester United on Sunday.

Abou Diaby also misses out for the Gunners, while long-term absentee Emmanuel Frimpong is also back in training, and has been teased about piling on a few extra pounds by Jack Wilshere on Twitter.

Things get worse for the Premier League's bottom club West Ham, who have been hit by the news that Mark Noble will be out for "at least three weeks" with a torn hernia.

Scott Parker is still not fully fit, but the Hammers may be forced to field him against Manchester City on Sunday as they desperately try to engineer a late escape from the bottom three.

Sunderland managed to beat Wigan 4-2 without any strikers on the field, but it looks as though they may have to repeat that trick for the remainder of the season.

Asamoah Gyan and Danny Welbeck will do well to play any further part in this campaign, while Fraizer Campbell's latest knee operation has ruled him out until 2012.

That means 19-year-old Ryan Noble is the only recognised striker at the club, although Steve Bruce may opt to field Kieran Richardson or Stephane Sessegnon as a makeshift frontman.

Andy Carroll will face a late fitness test on his knee before he is risked against his former club Newcastle United, as they travel to Liverpool on Sunday.
