Well, I think that is
what you call redeeming yourself! Ian and I finally got our mojo going! I think
it was because we dressed like the St Georges flag in all white with a red belt
and red hat! That inspired us.
It was great to feel the excitement of making a run and getting our name on the
leaderboard. We knew there was a low score to be had and it is very rewarding
to do it on a Sunday when it really mattered.
For the first time all week, we managed to get off to a good start being 4
under par through 6 holes. Ian brought up a stat that we had played the front 9
in 12 more shots than the Irish boys through 3 rounds!
We always felt that
something special could happen today. That belief could have waned after a 3
putt bogey at 14 but as we have done all week, we bounced back to play the last
4 holes in 4 under to post what we thought would be a target to get the
attention of the leaders out on the golf course.
Congratulations to the
Americans who made very few mistakes and posted an impressive 24 under par for
the week. They were a well balanced team with the raw power of Gary Woodland
and the consistency of Matt Kuchar.
All in all, I feel Ian and I had the arsenal to win this World Cup. Excuse the
pun as Ian is a huge Gooner! But I think we have further established our
reputation as a good partnership and having debuted strongly in the 2008 Ryder
Cup at Valhalla, I hope we have the opportunity to continue to add points and
wins as a team.
Thank you all for following our progress this week. Whenever you represent
England there is amazing support and a sense of pride and passion from the
English people. And that is why Ian and I never gave up all week.
