Mats Wilander spends some time with French Open finalist Simona Halep, who has bulldozed her way to a shot at glory.
The plucky Romanian hasn’t dropped a set on her way to the final, where she faces Maria Sharapova.
The world number four has more than justified her ranking, after fans and pundits expressed surprise that she had snuck into the upper tier of women’s tennis ahead of Roland Garros.
On her day off before Saturday’s final, she tells Mats how she fights for every point, and how that has held her in good stead on the clay of Paris.
It’s an interesting point she makes, as it shows why she is so unpredictable and hard to beat – her preferred shot is not actually her best one.
Halep faces Russian legend Sharapova on Saturday. Many felt that the WTA ranking system had been harsh on Sharapova – who slipped to seventh – and kind to Halep.
Both, however, have merited their place in the final, which of course you can watch on Eurosport and the Player.
