R.A. Dickey campaigns for Blue Jays playoff dates to be holidays in Canada

Diehard fans waiting to see the Toronto Blue Jays in the playoffs for the first time since 1993 couldn't help but be a little disappointed when the postseason schedule came out.

Game 1 of the ALDS against the Texas Rangers in Toronto will begin at either 3:37 or 4:07 p.m. ET on Thursday and Friday's Game 2 is set for a 12:45 p.m. ET start time. That's not exactly ideal or convenient for the average person that works a weekday 9-5, so R.A. Dickey had an idea to work around that potential problem.

Unfortunately, it might be a little late to pass that motion, especially with Canada's federal government focused on an election in a couple weeks. One of the candidates for prime minister should have conferred with Dickey sooner – it probably would have helped in the polls.

Even without an official holiday, don't expect the workforce to be at full strength or overly productive across the country. More than a few fans are considering calling in sick or taking vacation days to watch the action, either in person or on TV.

Blue Jays supporters certainly appreciate Dickey's efforts, though. He wasn't able to come through with this, but they'll gladly take a dominant start and a win in the division series from the knuckleballer instead.
