Number retirement debates are usually best left to the fan bases that are celebrating the player. Let’s just get that out of the way.
But we can’t help but wonder if it strikes Tampa Bay Lightning fans a little odd that Martin St. Louis – of the acrimonious trade demand that led him to the New York Rangers in March 2014 – is the first player in franchise history to get his number retired.
Especially when the other members of that troika of Lightning stars – Vinny Lecavalier and Brad Richards – both retired this offseason.

Hey, remember Joey Hishon?
The former Colorado Avalanche prospect is now playing for Jokerit of the KHL. In a game against Dynamo this week, Hishon took a pass at center ice and started moving into the attacking zone. Defenseman Andrei Mironov skated back to defend him.
Mironov took a big swipe at the puck with his stick and missed, but had a backup plan: Dropping down to take out Hishon, in one of the young season’s most spectacular hip-checks:
Yikes! Joey Hishon entered the Upside-Down! Beware the Demogorgon!

The new mask of Boston Bruins goaltender Anton Khudobin has the ability to change colors.
According to InGoal Magazine, Khudobin asked his designer, Sylvie Marsolais of Sylabrush for a unique look. So she listened to his request by using “Subzero” paint to shift the color with hot and cold water.
Marsolais goes into greater detail on the Mask with InGoal.

“Anton always wants original and unique masks so we brainstormed with Dobby and went with the old Bruins logo on top with a Matte finish to get a bigger contrast from the background,” Marsolais said.
Last Season: 49-24-9 (107 points), 2nd in the Central, 2nd in the West
Through February the Blues played decent, consistent hockey and then put on a big push in March. After Feb. 27, the Blues went 14-4-0 to finish second in the Central and give them home ice in the first-round of the playoffs.
Throughout the course of the season, St. Louis had to deal with injuries to star players. Alex Steen, Alex Pietrangelo, Paul Stastny, Kevin Shattenkirk and Jaden Schwartz all missed time, which meant the Blues had to rely on their youth.
Over the years, St. Louis had stockpiled young depth and someRead More »from Puck Daddy’s 2016-17 NHL Preview: St. Louis Blues

Tanner Pearson of the Los Angeles Kings will miss the rest of the preseason and the first two games of the regular season after he was suspended two games for a hit on Brandon Davidson of the Edmonton Oilers.
Midway through the second period of Sunday’s Kraft Hockeyville game in Lumby, B.C., Pearson was ejected following an illegal check to the head. With the puck coming toward Davidson, the Kings forward gave up attempting to possess it and went for the hit. That’s when he caught the Oilers defenseman up high.Read More »from Tanner Pearson to miss Kings' first two games due to suspension (Video)
