Braden Holtby OK after scary practice collision, Capitals say

Washington Capitals goalie Braden Holtby is playing on a different plane of existence in these playoffs.

He’s given up two goals on 93 shots for a .978 save percentage and a 0.67 goals-against average. He’s the primary reason why the Capitals are up 3-0 on the Philadelphia Flyers, and the primary reason It’s All Going To Be Different This Time (tm, Capitals).

So it was with much concern and more than a little bit of horror that Capitals fans saw reports from Tuesday’s practice that Holtby left for the locker room after colliding with a teammate. It appeared he was favoring his left knee.

Tom Gulitti of NHL.com reports that “Holtby walked through locker room after getting treatment, was smiling. Left leg below knee was red from icing.”

Capitals coach Barry Trotz said that Holtby was “nicked up” in practice but expects him to play in Game 4 and doesn’t expect to have to call up a goaltender from the AHL.
