Ducks hand Jakob Silfverberg 4-year, $15M extension
As the dog days of summer ticked by, Anaheim Ducks GM Bob Murray had two RFA Swedes on his 'To Sign' list, and on Friday, he took care of one.
Jakob Silfverberg inked a four-year deal. First reported by NHL.com's Curtis Zupke, the contract has average annual value of $3.75-million. After shelling out a questionable contract extension to Ryan Kesler earlier in the summer, Murray handed Silfverberg, 24, a much more reasonable deal.

After an injury plagued first season in Anaheim, he signed a one-year, $850,500 RFA deal for the 2014-15 year. It gave him a chance to earn his payday, and he did just that.
Silfverberg endeared himself to the Ducks as a defensive forward, often playing alongside Kesler on the second line. Although he's blessed with one of the best wrist shots in the game, his offensive stats during the regular season weren't much to write home about. Yet, he was invaluable on the penalty kill and led the league with 9 goals on 13 shoot-out attempts. He did deliver in the playoffs. His 18-points in 16 games played tied him with Corey Perry for second on the team, and was, by far, the best two-way forward down the stretch.
The winger was acquired by the Ducks in the 2013 off-season trade that sent Bobby Ryan to Ottawa. Ryan signed a seven-year, $7.25-million AAV with Ottawa where he's expected to perform at astronomical levels. The expectations for Silfverberg are much more tempered playing mainly on the second line and on special teams.

All that's left now for Murray is to sign RFA Carl Hagelin. The Swedish forward was acquired from the New York Rangers for Emerson Etem. Anaheim has plenty of cap space on the books. The challenge for Murray is finding another reasonable deal for a forward - who hasn't played a second with his team - that made $2.25-million AAV with the Rangers.
