Ex-Canucks GM Mike Gillis joins Swiss team's board of directors

A little over two years after being fired as general manager of the Vancouver Canucks, Mike Gillis is back in hockey.

Swiss league side Geneve-Servette HC announced on Tuesday that they have hired Gillis, along with his former assistant GM in Vancouver, Lorne Henning, and lawyer Peter Gall to its board of directors.

Said team owner Hugh Quennec: "We all share the same vision. We want to develop the role of the club in this community, promote the emergence of young talents, participate in the development of hockey in Switzerland and build a new rink which will be a place of reference for the region.”

Gillis had most recently been teaching a sports law class at the University of Victoria in British Columbia with Gall, a prominent lawyer who worked with Brian Burke on the Poonerman case.

Geneve-Servette HC finished this past season third in the Swiss National League A standings before being bounced by Lugano in the playoffs.
