Flyers COO on bracelet-throwing fans: ‘We express our sincere regret’

As you’re no doubt aware, it was an embarrassing night in Philadelphia on Monday, as people you’d expect to behave with a certain amount of class, sportsmanship and decorum decided to make the night about themselves with regrettable, unruly conduct during a losing effort

But enough about the Philadelphia Flyers! Their fans also threw a bunch of crap on the ice, too.

Specifically, light-up bracelets that you may have seen during halftime and Olympic ceremonies or at a Taylor Swift concert. Some Flyers fans decided to turn these trinkets into projectiles when their game against the Washington Capitals got away from their team, despite Wayne Simmonds literally standing before them in the ice, asking them to [expletive] stop.

The Flyers released a statement about the incident to Yahoo Sports on Monday, from Shawn Tilger, Chief Operating Officer:

"Flyers fans are the best in sports. However, last night, a number of individuals behaved in an unacceptable manner. Fans have the right to voice their displeasure vocally or by not watching or attending games, but when displeasure is expressed in a way that embarrasses or endangers others, it cannot be condoned or tolerated. As an organization, and on behalf of the overwhelming majority of Flyers’ fans who express their passion in a positive manner, we wish to express our sincere regret."

Again, how much you hold the Flyers responsible for basically arming their fans is likely based on how much personal responsibility you assign to those fans.

But we seriously doubt that the Flyers are going through with their Game 4 plan acquired by Dan Levy:

Keep your helmet on, Orlov…
