Jakub Voracek to help fight multiple sclerosis through 2015-16 point total

If you were writing up a shortlist of Art Ross Trophy candidates for the 2015-16 NHL season, Jakub Voracek of the Philadelphia Flyers would likely be on that list. The 26-year old forward had a career year last season, scoring 22 times and recording 81 points, good enough for fourth overall, six points behind Jamie Benn.

That success helped earn Voracek an 8-year, $66 million extension in July and the Golden Stick Award in the Czech Republic, which led to a rabbit mascot attack.

As we wait for puck to drop on this season, Voracek gave reason for hockey fans to root for him to be in the Art Ross race come April.

On Tuesday, Voracek announced the creation of a foundation aimed to help those battling multiple sclerosis, a disease his sister, Petra, is fighting. According to Flyers Nation, as part of the awareness and fundraising campaign, the Flyers winger will donate $1,000 for every point he records this season.

“The idea is excellent,” Voracek said via Nova Sport. “Professional athletes have so much money that they can afford it. I just hope we will [do] more.”

Congratulations to Voracek for not only this noble cause but for also becoming everyone's sentimental pick to win this season's Art Ross Trophy.
