NHL Three Stars: Crawford stops 46; Dubnyk wins again for Wild

No. 1 Star: Corey Crawford, Chicago Blackhawks

Crawford made 46 saves in regulation and overtime, then stopped all three Edmonton Oilers shootout attempts to help Chicago to a 2-1 win. Antoine Vermette scored the only goal in the shootout. Ben Scrivens stopped 38 shots in a losing effort.

No. 2 Star: Devan Dubnyk, Minnesota Wild

Charlie Coyle, Mikael Granlund and Zach Parise all scored for the Wild as they beat the Carolina Hurricanes 3-1 for their fifth win in a row. Dubnyk continued his amazing season in Minnesota by stopping 37 shots for his 10th win in his last 12 starts. Granlund, Parise and Jason Pominville each recorded two points.

No. 3 Star: Patric Hornqvist, Pittsburgh Penguins

Hornqvist scored twice seven minutes apart in the second period as the Penguins downed the Anaheim Ducks 5-2. He now has eight points in his last six games. Evgeni Malkin stayed hot, scoring a goal and adding an assist to give him 13 points over his last seven games. Thomas Greiss made 27 saves for his fourth win in five starts.

Honorable Mention: The Columbus Blue Jackets built up a 3-1 lead by midway through the second period and held on for a 3-2 win over the New Jersey Devils. The victory snapped a seven-game losing streak. Sergei Bobrovsky made 21 saves. Brandon Dubinsky, in his first game back from a concussion, and new guy Justin Falk each scored a goal and assisted on another … Devils netminder Cory Schneider played in his 200th NHL game … Mark Stone and Milan Michalek each had a pair of points as the Ottawa Senators came from behind against the Buffalo Sabres for a 3-2 win. Ottawa scored three unanswered goals after Buffalo took a 2-0 lead into the first intermission. Andrew Hammond made 24 saves to improve to 7-0-1 … Anders Lindback made this highlight-reel save in a losing effort for the Sabres … This Henrik Zetterberg pass was gorgeous:

Jiri Hudler didn’t score only once against his old team, he put two past Jimmy Howard as the Calgary Flames downed the Detroit Red Wings 5-2. Justin Abdelkader gave the Red Wings an early 2-0 lead, but Calgary responded with five straight, including Hudler’s pair, as the Flames moved into a tie with Vancouver for second in the Pacific Division. Jonas Hiller made 33 saves and Matt Stajan scored in his first game since returning from the birth of his son.

Did You Know? “Andrew Hammond became just the second goaltender in the past 76 years to allow two or fewer goals in his first eight career NHL starts.” (AP)

Dishonorable Mention: Buffalo has dropped three in a row and learned after the game that newly-acquired Chad Johnson could be done for the year … Edmonton won only 24 of 62 face-offs.
