NHL Three Stars: Vasilevskiy gets shutout in front of family; Voracek nets winner

No. 1 Star: Andrei Vasilevskiy, Tampa Bay Lightning

With his parents in the crowd watching Vasilevskiy play an NHL game live for the first time, the young netminder put on a show with 30 saves in a 1-0 shutout over the Toronto Maple Leafs. Vasilevskiy has won six straight decisions. Tampa is 8-2-0 in their last 10 games and are in second place in the Atlantic Division.

No. 2 Star: Jakub Voracek, Philadelphia Flyers

The Flyers winger netted two goals – including the overtime game winner in a 4-3 win over the NHL leading Washington Capitals. Voracek just 36 points in 47 games. Last season he notched 81 in 82. He seems to be heating up with five points in his last three games.

No. 3 Star: Shea Weber, Nashville Predators

Weber blasted a cannon on the power play in a 2-1 win at the Calgary Flames on Wednesday night. The score proved to be the game-winner, and helped Nashville to their fourth straight victory. The goal was Weber’s 12th on the season – which ranks fifth amongst NHL defensemen.

Honorable Mention: Tampa Bay center Steven Stamkos fired his 21st goal of the season on the 1-0 win over Toronto. Anton Stralman and Valtteri Filppula picked up assists on Stamkos’ scores. Stamkos has scored at least 10 power play goals in six of his eight NHL seasons … Flyers forward Brayden Schenn fired his 12th score  … Washington Capitals forward Andre Burakovsky scored two goals … Caps center Nicklas Backstrom scored one goal … Nashville Predators forward Mike Ribeiro scored his sixth goal of the season … Predators backup goaltender Carter Hutton stopped 26 of 26 shots on goal ... Defenseman Mark Giordano scored for the Flames … Los Angeles Kings forward Dwight King scored one goal and added an assist in a 4-3 loss to the Colorado Avalanche … Kings defenseman Drew Doughty scored a short handed goal … Colorado forward Gabriel Landeskog scored two goals. Teammate Matt Duchene notched one goal and added one assist … Colorado goaltender Calvin Pickard stopped 35 of 38 Kings shots on goal in the win.

Did You Know? Washington Capitals defenseman Karl Alzner played in his 423rd straight game, passing Bobby Carpenter for the longest streak in team history.

Dishonorable Mention: Washington goaltender Braden Holtby has lost two of his last four decisions … Kings goaltender Jonathan Quick has lost his last three starts heading into the All-Star break. He stopped just 15 of 19 Colorado shots on goal ... The Maple Leafs have lost nine of 10 games.
