Olympic Three Stars: Kessel tricks Slovenia; D-man Doughty is Canada’s best forward

No. 1 Star: Phil Kessel, USA

Kessel scored on his first shift, undressing Mitja Robar before beating Slovenian goaltender Luka Gracnar with a beautiful shot. It was clear then that he was going, and by the end of the second, he'd scored twice more in the Americans' 5-1 win over Slovenia.

No. 2 Star: Drew Doughty, Canada

In addition to looking like the guy you want most to have the puck, Doughty is also, apparently, the guy you want most to shoot it. The defender scored his third and fourth goals of the tournament in Canada's 2-1 overtime win over the Finns. He's been Canada's MVP through three games.

No. 3 Star: Michael Grabner, Austria

Grabner was in on all three goals in Austria's 3-1 win over Norway. He scored in the first and third, and set up Michael Raffl's powerplay goal as well.

Honorable mention: Joe Pavelski had three assists for Team USA... Alexander Radulov redeemed himself after the loss to the US by scoring the game-winner versus Austria. Semyon Varlamov made 27 saves to secure the Russian shutout.

Did you know? Doughty finishes the preliminary round with one more goal than Latvia. Slovakia too.

Dishonorable mention: The Russians can't score, and neither can the Canadians. With the Americans and Swedes going the way they are, this is a problem that needs to be sorted out between now and when the elimination round begins.
