Last week, Sportsnet's Nick Kypreos reported that Kiprusoff would not report to a team if he was traded and instead would retire. Then after a few days, the talk heated up again, with Kiprusoff being connected with the Toronto Maple Leafs. It appeared he was contemplating going forward with such a move, but TSN's Darren Dreger and Sportsnet's Roger Millions report that the 36-year old goaltender will remain in Calgary and retire at the end of the season.
Flames GM Jay Feaster had been in contact with Maple Leafs GM Dave Nonis and Kiprusoff's agent, Larry Kelly, but even the idea of a potential contract extension after this season wasn't enough to change his mind. So does this now put Nonis' focus on to Roberto Luongo?
James Reimer called the deadline a distraction, and with all the buzz around what the Maple Leafs may or may not do, he won't be the only one to see 3 p.m. ET come and go later today.
