T.J. Oshie’s goal fools everyone, except T.J. Oshie (Video)

The Ottawa Senators beat the St. Louis Blues 5-4 after a shootout Tuesday night, but if not for video replay or the keen eyes of T.J. Oshie, the game may not have made it that far.

In the second period with the score tied 1-1, Oshie pounced on a cross-ice pass and put his shot on net. The puck then disappears and no one on the ice seems to know where it went. Did it deflect out of play? Did Senators goaltender Robin Lehner make a glove save?

Only Oshie knew where the puck went: in the net.

Shades of Patrick Kane's Stanley Cup-winning goal from 2010...

From Jeremy Rutherford of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch:

Oshie knew that his shot couldn’t have missed. He celebrated as if he had scored, but when officials raised their hands to signal the puck left the ice surface, Oshie turned and skated to the Ottawa net. He ducked his head underneath the back bar and found where his blast laid to rest — lodged inside.

“I just had a feeling that it went in, the way it came off my stick,” Oshie said. “People started shoveling the ice and I wanted to argue my case. Fortunately, he listened.”

David Backes scored late in the period to give St. Louis a 3-1 lead heading into the final period. But a three-goal final period by the Senators helped forced overtime and later a shootout where it would take five rounds, but Ottawa would come out on top.
