This summer Eurosport is counting down the world's greatest footballers, as voted by our international network of journalists. We will reveal one player per day, culminating in the election of the first Ballon d'Eurosport on July 19.

The Ballon d'Eurosport explained.

France international Franck Ribery was an integral part of Bayern Munich’s treble-winning side in 2012-13, cementing his standing as one of the best wingers in European football.

Quick and with excellent close control, Ribery possesses all the attributes to test the world’s best full-backs.

The winger’s form was reflective of Bayern’s throughout the season.

Ribery reached double figures for both goals and assists in the league and was voted the Bundesliga Player of the Year by his fellow professionals.

He has recently extended his contract with the European champions until 2017, much to the delight of Bayern supporters.

The Italian office rated Ribery as the world’s number one player, perhaps a reflection of his excellent displays against Juventus in the Champions League.

How Eurosport voted

We asked the editorial teams of 10 countries/areas around the Eurosport network to compile their list of the world's 25 best players.

Then we did the sums, Eurovision-style. It's simple: a first-place vote is worth 25 points, second place is 24... all the way down to one point for a 25th-place vote.
