There is a presumption that Real Madrid have a team of superstars, while Atletico Madrid simply have a cohesive team and a fantastic spirit amongst the players.

But the players that make up each team are actually more closely matched than many are suggesting in the build up to the Champions League final.

Our Spanish office, based in Madrid, have had their say and analysed the two teams to decide which really does have the best players.

VERDICTS EXPLAINED

Iker Casillas v Thibaut Courtois: DRAW - It is true that Casillas's role at Real Madrid is now very much confined to that of a cup specialist, but his displays have been of such a high calibre that even the brilliant Courtois cannot take this one.

Daniel Carvajal v Juanfran: DRAW - Carvajal has ended the season with distinction and is an important player going forward as well as defensively, but Juanfran is so solid at the back that there's no choosing between the two.

Pepe v Diego Godin: GODIN - The Uruguayan was again faultless at the back against Barcelona as Atletico clinched the title and it was his header that won the league. He takes this one over the temperamental Pepe.

Sergio Ramos v Miranda: RAMOS - Fresh off marking Lionel Messi out of the game against Barcelona, Miranda's stock is rightly very high, but Ramos is a true leader and not afraid to contribute very important goals too.

Fabio Coentrao v Filipe Luis: FILIPE - Another of Atleti's true defensive heroes and incredibly reliable, Filipe deserves to clinch this head-to-head despite Coentrao's improved form in this campaign.

Luka Modric v Tiago: MODRIC - It's a measure of what Simeone has achieved that a player who looked to have seen better days has been a revelation, but Modric's unrivalled class in this position, particularly passing from deep, sees him prevail.

Asier Illarramendi v Gabi Fernandez: GABI - Captain Marvel would walk into any Liga team of the season and he walks into this line-up without any questions needing to be asked. A wonderful leader and a fine player.

Angel Di Maria v Koke: KOKE - Well, Xavi has called him the 'new Xavi', so what more do we need to say? He has kept Atletico playing with intelligence and creativity throughout the campaign and is blossoming into a true midfield maestro.

Gareth Bale v Raul Garcia: BALE - The Welshman has taken Spain by storm after joining from Tottenham and is aiming to end his first season with the ultimate prize. His pace and power could well be the cutting edge that decides the contest. He already has an incredible 21 goals and 16 assists to his name.

Cristiano Ronaldo v Arda Turan: RONALDO - There's really no competition for Ronaldo, who has scored 16 goals in this year's competition alone, firing Real to their first final in 12 years. This could be his crowning moment in a Real shirt and no one would deserve such a triumph more given all that he has already achieved.

Karim Benzema v David Villa: DRAW - The Frenchman has formed a lethal partnership with Bale and Ronaldo that has produced a combined total of 95 goals in all competitions this season, but the wily and experienced Villa could find a touch of magic to inspire his side. This one's too tight to call.

Carlo Ancelotti v Diego Simeone: DRAW - Simeone has rightly made all the headlines this season in what has been one of the great managerial triumphs, but Ancelotti's canny management has again come to the fore this season. Simeone already has the Liga title in the bag, but it would be foolish to count against Ancelotti clinching yet another Champions League crown. This will go down as a tie.
