European Team of the Week: Demichelis shines bright

Martin Demichelis has had a tough time of things this season, being cruelly nicknamed Martin DemiSnailis for one thanks to his lack of pace.

But the Manchester City defender is making headlines for the right reasons today after being named in our European Team of the Week.

Demichelis made our XI after scoring a goal in a 5-0 win over Fulham but he also made 11 clearances and nine recoveries.

In fact, there were two other unheralded Premier League stars recognised by Opta, with Cardiff's Jordon Mutch and Hull defender Liam Rosenior both making the cut thanks to their goalscoring exploits.

More established names in the XI included Lionel Messi after his hat-trick in the Clasico and Bayern Munich star Bastian Schweinsteiger, who completed over 100 passes against Mainz.
