European Team of the Week: Incredible Hulk

Pitchside Europe would like to apologise for the rather predictable pun in today's headline, but Zenit St Petersburg striker Hulk is fully deserving of this man-of-the-week nomination.

It was widely regarded that Andre Villas-Boas' appointment as Zenit coach was in part due to a belief he could motivate his fellow Portuguese-speakers, and with Hulk blowing hot and cold in Russia, the Brazil striker's form was deemed a priority.

Hulk was on fire at the weekend, scoring twice and bagging an assist as Zenit hammered Rubin Kazan 6-2. Mission accomplished, for the time being.

Zenit have now won all of their matches since AvB took charge last month, lending credence to the theory that - while a bit of a pseud - the young Portuguese coach is actually pretty good at his job if his players and board believe in him.

Other notable performances include Marseille's Andre Ayew, who notched a hat-trick against Agaccio, and Jason Puncheon, whose double against Cardiff gave Crystal Palace the win in a relegation six-pointer.

Here is the full XI below, followed by Opta's statistical breakdown of the selection.
