A gaggle of England players, led by captain Steven Gerrard, gave squad masseur Paul Small an unwanted 50th birthday present on Tuesday.

Small was gagged, tied to a chair, placed on the goalline and pelted with footballs. But that was not the end of his ordeal.

The gleeful group then carried a squirming Small towards an ice bath and dropped him into its chilling depths.

Gerrard uploaded the footage to Instagram along with the message: “All the lads wishing our masseur Smally a happy 50th birthday with a quick dip in the ice bath!”

The stunt suggested the England squad were relaxed and upbeat ahead of their decisive Group D clash with Uruguay on Thursday.

Unfortunately Small floated, which we think means he must now stand trial for witchcraft. It’s not been a good day for the lad.
