Australia may have been soundly beaten by Chile in their World Cup opener, but midfielder Mark Bresciano provided something to smile about.

A picture of the Socceroos player helping a mascot on crutches to tie his shoelaces has gone viral, a picture taken just before the defeat on Friday night.

Australia are not likely to get out of a group which also features Spain and the Netherlands, but Bresciano at least gives something to remember them by.

Their next game is against the Dutch, fresh from thrashing Spain 5-1, on Wednesday.
