Mourinho: England have been one of the best teams so far

The Rio Report

Jose Mourinho has said that England have been one of the best teams at the World Cup so far despite their opening defeat to Italy.

The Yahoo Sports Global Football Ambassador said that people are overstating how impressive the Netherlands (v Spain) and Germany (v Portugal) were because their opponents were so poor.

Instead it was the Italy v England game that really caught his eye, with both teams standing out as potential World Cup winners.

"Italy v England was a high level game because the two teams were really good and very strong," he said.

"For me it was the game where the technical quality, the competition, the intensity – all the right ingredients for a top football match – where there. That for me was a real game.”

Mourinho also gave his thoughts on Brazilian star Neymar who he says shows all the right signs you would want to see in a top player.

"I can read in his body language that he is the kind of kid that in spite of so young, he copes very, very well with pressure," he said.
