Twitter loves nothing more than kicking someone when they're down, and duly had a field day as Brazil's living nightmare continued into the third/fourth play-off.


The night started with a degree of hope - I mean, look! Here was Neymar out of his hospital bed and hobbling awkwardly around the place.

As the match kicked off, Brazil legend Cafu tweeted this:

60 seconds later Thiago Silva, fresh back from suspension, proved beyond all doubt that it wasn't.

And ref Djamel Haimoudi's pity call, showing Thiago Silva just a yellow, provoked its share of rage.

Then David Luiz did what David Luiz does, and Daley Blind made it two.

That little girl belting out the national anthem earned something of a following, incidentally - and she is quite possibly the only Brazilian to come out of Saturday night with her reputation enhanced:
