Singers Jennifer Lopez, Pitbull and Claudia Leitte perform during the opening ceremony of the 2014 World Cup at the Corinthians arena in Sao Paulo June 12, 2014.
Jennifer Lopez's appearance in a figure-hugging green number at the World Cup opening ceremony in Sao Paulo caused a fair bit of interest among male admirers. It was just a shame the official World Cup song 'We Are One (Ole Ola)' was ruined by a dreadful sound system in the stadium. Poor old Jenny from the Block. But to be fair, her singing companion Pitbull seemed to attract as much derision.
The entire World Cup opening ceremony sounded like a shopping trolley falling down an endless flight of concrete steps.

I want to send a massive shout-out to Jennifer Lopez for overcoming the "unspecified production issues" and performing tonight. #WorldCup

The £9 million cost of the opening ceremony did not go down well with some.
Well, if the football matches the opening ceremony... it'll emerge from a giant Chocolate Orange and we won't be able to hear it. — Dara Ó Briain (@daraobriain) June 12, 2014

Elsewhere, England were offered some advice in the way of prayer.

The arrival of Italy's 2006 World Cup winner Fabio Cannevaro in the ITV studio was welcomed by, erm, bookmakers Paddy Power. Not sure that is much of an endorsement.
Some handsome devils in the ITV studio tonight..Fabio Cannavaro, Patrick Viera and...errrmmm...Adrian Chiles.

The reaction to Mr Chiles...well not so welcome.
