Overreaction Theatre: Fans slam ‘most boring match in World Cup history’

The Rio Report

The excitement was palpable ahead of Belgium’s Group H encounter with Russia. The stage was set for Belgium, fresh from their late heroics against Algeria, to unleash their attacking firepower on their fellow Europeans.

But what followed was a dreary episode, one only enlivened in the final 10 minutes when Belgium belatedly imposed themselves on the clash to snatch a 1-0 win.

Needless to say that many people on Twitter were not impressed.

Some fans were left contemplating some pretty drastic measures.

While others were hoping for a return of the officiating which blighted the beginning of the tournament.

Fortunately, the neutrals were rewarded with a fine exhibition of football from Algeria and South Korea.

And in the late kick-off, a late Silvestre Varela header stunned USA and kept Portugal’s faint World Cup hopes alive. It led to some pretty mild responses.

And some pretty severe ones.

Just don't tell this guy.
