Little more than a day after their World Cup final victory over Argentina, Germany flew home to soak up the acclaim of their supporters.

Joachim Loew's side - who defeated Argentina 1-0 in the final at the Maracana in Rio - landed safely in Berlin's Tegel Airport at around 9am UK time and boarded a bus emblazoned with the dates of Germany's four World Cup wins - 1954, 1974, 1990 and 2014.

The players then appeared at Berlin's Brandenburg Gate where hundreds of thousands of Germany fans packed the streets to celebrate the country's triumph.

Per Mertesacker, of all people showed off some pretty neat dance moves.

And just look at how they showed off the trophy.

As ever, Germany's return home was documented on social media...

Goalkeeper Manuel Neuer - who performed with such distinction during the tournament - even took the trophy up to the cockpit for a mid-flight photo.

Jogi Loew also got into the act.

And the plane was spotted on the ground as it came into land.

The German federation's official Twitter account posted this picture after the plane landed.

And this shot of captain Philipp Lahm exiting the aircraft with the World Cup trophy in hand.

Arsenal playmaker Mesut Ozil took a shot of what greeted the Germany players as they stepped off the plane.

And posed with his team-mates before they boarded the bus.

Ozil was then captured on Instagram in celebratory pose as the bus set off for central Berlin.

And matchwinner Mario Goetze had to take an obligatory selfie from the bus.

Defender Mats Hummels tweeted this picture from the top of the bus, with the streets lined with Germany fans.

And the Fan Mile in Berlin was absolutely rammed with supporters ready to welcome home their heroes.

Then the team started posting pictures from the top of the huge bus carrying Germany's World Cup stars.

And this was the view at the Fan Mile.

The players then took the podium to enjoy the wild applause from the gathered crowds.
