The torment of losing to Dominika Cibulkova in the fourth round at Roland Garros proved too much for Victoria Azarenka on Sunday.
During her 6-2 7-6 loss to the Slovakian 15th seed, the world number one lost her temper and took out her frustrations on her racket after failing with a drop shot.
Azarenka initially motioned to smash her racket off the Parisian clay but stopped as a ball boy came to collect the ball she had spooned into the net.
However, the world number one then angrily hurled her racket at the ground and continued her assault when seated, breaking the frame on the floor during the change of ends.
The 2012 Australian Open champion left the racket fractured on the floor before going on to seal her exit from the tournament.
It was a day off for Rafael Nadal which meant he was able to relax and celebrate hisbirthday. The clay court king turned 26 and was rewarded with a pretty special birthday cake as you can see in the video below.
