Basketball’s new pint-sized superstar

World of Sport

Standing just 4ft 5in tall, 11-year-old Julian Newman has become an internet sensation after being picked for a high school team where he plays against people almost twice his height.

Our video shows Julian in action for Downey Christian school in Orlando, which is coached by his father, Jamie.

But this is clearly not a case of nepotism, as little Julian is a sensational player.

He might not be dunking left right and centre - not at that height - but his dribbling and shooting skills are excellent.

“He has a tremendous skill level,” says his father, Jamie. “He has moves that even NBA players don’t have.

"He does stuff that hasn’t been done before with the ball. I was a little concerned that the physical aspect would be a factor, but the thing is, people can’t stay in front of him.”

He might only be in fifth grade but Julian had to step up as he was obliterating opponents at a younger level, scoring 91 points in three quarters against one team.

At this rate, he will probably be an NBA star by the time he is 15.
