David Beckham's ice bucket challenge by videohelp

David Beckham, Lionel Messi and Tiger Woods were the latest sports stars to tackle the Ice Bucket Challenge.

The challenge – launched to raise money for ALS/motor neurone disease – encourages people to tip a bucket of freezing water over their heads, posting the results on social media, and challenging three mates to follow suit. The main UK charity is MND.

In a video posted on his Facebook page, Beckham squats nervously before three members of his entourage pour a sizeable bucket of water over him.

Unsurprisingly, the former England captain's nominees were a frighteningly famous trio – Basketball legends Magic Johnson and Michael Jordan, and some bloke called Leonardo DiCaprio:

Earlier, Lionel Messi – wearing a rather revealing vest-pants combo – nominated Ezequiel Lavezzi, Sergio Aguero and Nico Vazquez to conquer the challenge via his Instagram page:

Golf stars Tiger Woods and Rory McIlroy decided to soak each other, with the latter cheekily calling out 43rd President of the United States George W. Bush to take on the challenge:

Arsenal's World Cup winning midfielder Mesut Ozil chose to splash solo by pouring a bucket over his own head, before shivering and ordering Chicago Bulls’ Derrick Rose and Pop Queen Rihanna to follow suit:

Elsewhere, Rio Ferdinand was blasted with ice at Loftus Road, John Terry amusingly nominated former Chelsea manager Rafa Benitez, and tennis star Andrea Petkovic posted a teaser to Twitter:

But it was away from the sporting world that the most amusing effort surfaced… Truly glorious stuff:
