A German
golfer travelled 800 miles to buy a Briton a pint of beer after losing a bet -
but failed to track the man down.

Steinzen lost a bet during a round of golf against a man he knew only as
Patrick while on holiday in Majorca in 2005, but never paid his debt.

Last week,
armed only with a photo and Patrick's first name, 34-year-old Steinzen
travelled to the West Country in an attempt to find his opponent, who told him
he lived in Portishead near Bristol.

However, a
week searching the area's streets and golf courses proved fruitless for
Sebastian and his wife Nina.

Mr Steinzen, who is a
teacher in Gladbeck in the Ruhr Valley, said: "I owe him a pint. I want
to pay my bet. That is the only reason I am here.

"The bet has been on my mind for five years so I decided to do something
about it.  I'm a man who likes to pay his

"I have travelled 800 miles to try to find Patrick. It is worth every penny
if I find him."

Mr Steinzen
lost his bet after failing to land his ball within two yards of the hole from
130 yards.

He said:
"I am normally good at that distance but unfortunately I missed the green."
