Kid sinks length-of-court buzzer beater to send match to overtime

An American schoolboy has earned global fame after one of the most extraordinary shots in a basketball match you'll ever see.

Temidayo Yussuf and his team-mates from St Joseph Notre Dame High School looked certain to lose their league match to El Cerrito, as they trailed by three points and conceded a free throw with just 0.6 seconds left on the clock.

What happened next beggars belief: El Cerrito's player missed his free throw, and the Yussuf collected the rebound - then launched the ball in utter desperation up the other end of the court, only to see it clatter in for a miraculous three-pointer to tie the scores and send the match to overtime.

"Everyone stormed the court. It was bedlam. Craziness." said Yussuf's coach, Don Lippi.

"I've seen length-of-the-court makes at the end of quarters, but never in that circumstance. He's a remarkable young man."

Lippi's compliments weren't just hot air: Yussuf is 6'7", weighs 17 and a half stone, is the top-rated player in his division and is tipped as a future NBA star. If he makes it, he's already got a first entry in his career highlights reel.

"That's one no-one will ever forget," added Lippi.

Indeed not - but lets hope they do forget what happened next, as El Cerrito turned on the style in the extra period to run out 71-64 winners.
