Lewis Hamilton out in front as Britain’s richest sportsman

Lewis Hamilton's wealth of £68 million leaves the Formula One driver as Britain's richest sportsman, according to The Sunday Times Rich List for 2014.

The Mercedes driver has apparently enhanced his wealth by £8m over the past 12 months with F1 compatriot Jenson Button second on the list with a whopping £63m.

Manchester United forward Wayne Rooney is classified as the Premier League's richest footballer with £60m to his name from earnings and endorsements.

Tennis player Andy Murray's earnings were boosted by his success in winning Wimbledon with his wealth increasing from from £32m to £40m.

He is Scotland's richest sportsman with golfer Padraig Harrington Ireland's richest sportsman boasting some eye-watering figures of £36m.

The list does not only include earnings solely from sport, but also other assets such as property, art, racehorses and shares.
