There are 30 teams in Major League Baseball. All of them play 162 games a year. Which means every MLB season features a massive 2,430 games (not including the play-offs). And there’s a ceremonial first pitch before every single one of them.
So the sheer weight of statistics dictates that, every so often, you’re going to get one like Miss Texas Monique Evans’s.
Evans attended Rangers Ballpark in Arlington on Friday night to perform the honours before the Texas Rangers’ game against the Los Angeles Angels.
Perhaps realising her throwing arm wasn’t the strongest, Evans opted to throw underarm, with a graceful follow through hinting at her training as a ballerina.
Her baseball debut didn’t go well.
Still, she’s in good company, joining the likes of Carl Lewis, Mariah Carey and rapper 50 Cent in the hall of first pitch shame.
Evans chose to blame her crown – a pretty poor excuse, but still better than 50 Cent, who said his off-target throw was the consequence of “excessive masturbation”.
Anyway, here's Monique looking slightly more composed in a picture from her Twitter account (@MoniqueEvansTX).
