Petr Cech: Long of legs, short of vowels

Chelsea's magnificent victory in the Europa League final on Wednesday night was an impressive team performance, but the performance of several individuals was key for the Blues.

Fernando Torres and Branislav Ivanovic stole many of the headlines thanks to their goals, but the contribution of goalie Petr Cech was equally important, with the big Czech international tipping several shots over the bar in the second half.

Yet he was lucky to even be at the match at all: it emerged that the Blues' team bus left for the Amsterdam ArenA without the goalie on board.

Quite how they managed not to notice a man who stands 6'5" is beyond World of Sport, but that's what happened, with the bus pulling away from the hotel with its police escort taking them to the match.

That's when Cech was spotted running out of the front door of the hotel clutching his gear and waving frantically, bringing the entire motorcade to a halt and allowing the red-faced shot-stopper to climb sheepishly on board.

Thankfully it was the last time of the night that the big man went missing, with a conceded penalty the only time he was beaten during the final.
