Lewis Hamilton returned to the top step of the podium at the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix at the weekend while world champion Sebastian Vettel uncharacteristically crashed out on lap one.

It was the Briton's first triumph since July, finishing ahead of Fernando Alonso - a favourite of the crowd at Yas Marina in the Scuderia Ferrari - and Jenson Button.

The penultimate race in a long 2011 season was the third at the track and again served as the showpiece day-night contest.

Off the track the grid girls looked as classy as Hamilton did on it, while there was European royalty present to take in the spectacular architecture...
