British & Irish Lions captain Alun Wyn Jones is warning of a South Africa backlash after the tourists went ahead at the weekend in the test series with a well-earned 22-17 win in Cape Town. In the first of three successive tests at the Cape Town stadium, the Lions fought back after being 12-3 down at halftime to the world champions Springboks on Saturday.

But Anna Kiesenhofer's victory in the women's road race on Sunday takes some beating. They will not forget Kiesenhofer in a hurry, however, after she ambushed their plans for an orange procession in the foothills of Mount Fuji with a fairytale ride. So unexpected was her gold medal that when Dutch three-times world champion Annemiek Van Vleuten crossed the line at the Fuji International Speeedway one minute and 15 seconds later she assumed she was the winner.
